Tantrums

How did my sweet, lovable, precious newborn grow into a boy who now throws tantrums?!!!!

Temper tantrums.
Hissy fits.

Look at him - losing control.

Because his mother is cruel.

She wouldn't let him play outside

because it was morning,
because she wasn't properly dressed,
because she hadn't had her coffee yet.

She's cruel.

I think me and Mr. Dobson need to spend some time together.

All parenting advice welcomed.

Because he's almost two!! And he, by the way, is adorable even if he's frustrated about not going outside!

My boys were hating their horribly horrible mother because I wouldn't let them play with squirt guns and the garden hose today.

It was barely 50 degrees outside.

So mother of the year threw a handful of candy corn their way and we're all friends again.

Bless you! All I can say is that I've definitely been there...that EXACT situation. I can also say that it will pass. SS is in a stage where he can understand what you say to him but he can't articulate to you what he wants/needs. He is caught btwn a rock and a hard place. The only way he knows how to communicate is to tho' down!!! We had a tho' down in Walmart a few months ago...it wasn't pretty. The way I handle the tho' downs may not be the way you choose to handle them, but, I simply ignore the situation. I calmly explain what we are or are not going to do, and, if we are at home, I walk away and let him work it out. If we are in public, and he's in a shopping cart, I just push on and ignore him the best I can. If people start looking at us, I just shrug my shoulders at them and say, "he's 2!" Everyone understands! But, if you give in now, SS will learn that he can work you over! Especially in public! If you give in after 10 minutes, he will learn that he can scream and act out for 10 minutes and you will give in. Its hard, mama! Its SO hard! Daddies seem to have a harder time because they don't like for ANYTHING uncivilized to ever happen in public, God forbid. Matt is learning and getting better, but, I really think its best for the child to learn how to self-soothe and work it out on their own. Let us know how it goes!

Oh I too am a mean mother when it comes to outside. I mean, the walk and the park are simply not enough. We must go outside when it's raining, freezing, blazing, and when we are practically indecent. Time outs is our punishment for everything. It works. It's just inconvienient for me sometimes...

Oh how I feel your pain! Kate threw the biggest tantrum yesterday all because I wouldn't pick her up while i was fixing dinner...slightly ridiculous! I think i need to spend time with Dobson, too!

we are right there with you. i spent an hour on the phone last night with my sister...trying to come up with SOMETHING to do to cope with this stage. i'm calling it a stage because SURELY it will pass. i pray for a heavy dose of God's grace as I get up each morning. I want to enjoy these days, not just survive them, you know? hang in there and know that you are not alone!!

When you find the right answers, please let me know for future reference. And, goodness, he's the cutest tantrum-thrower. Is it hard not to laugh?!

I think that is why God made them so dern cute at this age because they are also so dern frustrating at this age. You are holding out for his 3rd b'day, the tantrums will magically stop because then he will better be able to communicate, and then that is when you move on to the next stage and he will communicate EVERYTHING whether you want him to or not! Happy Parenting!
