"Children's" Artwork

So I have these beautiful new built-in bookshelves and I've envisioned filling at least one of them with some framed children's artwork. My hope was that by the time the shelves were completed S. Smalls would be old enough to scribble me up a little something or even better, finger paint or volunteer his hands for little hand prints.

Well, he's just not that into it. Coloring - naw. Painting - could care less.
The best I've gotten from him is penciled chicken scratch on my grocery list.

So as strange as it is, I took matters into my own hands (more specifically fingers) and did a little finger painting of my own, creating a nice little collection of faux children's artwork.

I wanted the art to mean something so I chose three Bible verses and let those scriptures be my inspiration.

Genesis 9: 16
Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

Psalm 1: 3
He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Isaiah 40: 8
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever

Did I mention that I received the highest average in Art my ninth grade year?

Well, I did.

I can't wait to re-do this project when my children are old enough and replace my "masterpieces" with authentic children's art.

Here are a few more verses and passages that I think would be great to use as inspiration for this project....

Psalm 127: 1
Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.

Psalm 24: 1
The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it.

Luke 6: 26
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Psalm 19: 1
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Genesis 1 - the creation passage

Oh the possibilities are endless!

What a great idea! This is so beautiful and clever! Wonderful job, SB!!

Wanting What I Have said...

Precious! Let me tell you - I had/have the same desire. Sister was only one when I was Oh, so wanting some art from her. So...we stripped her down to her diaper. I squirted paint colors I liked on a board, we placed a large canvas in the grass and let her go to town. She was HILARIOUS!!! She stepped in the paint and picked up globs of it. And it turned out to look like an abstract. We had it framed and it's one of my favorite pieces in our house! I can even see where the paint squished between her toes. LOVE!

Not that you want abstracts...but it sure was fun and a treasure to us!

SB - these are so cute! We just framed two of the boys' "masterpieces" for the schoolroom and I love the look. Small will be painting before you know it!

Love your art, SB! Can't wait for SS's own creations to replace them, but they're mighty cute in the meantime. I love the scripture references you chose, too.

Love them!

Cracked up that SS won't give you any artwork! And I saw sooo much promise when we let them go wild on the porch... haha.

Although, I will say all (frameable) children's artwork is pretty contrived. We have a rainbow framed that "J painted". I think the VBS lady painted a different color on each of his fingers, and spread his hand across the page. Still, I count it. :)
